Inspirational Artists :: Crayon Carvings

I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday weekend! I can't believe the summer has come and gone already!!

Diem Chau is best known for her extremely intricate crayon carvings. Inspired by both storytelling and myth, she strives to create vignettes of fleeting memory, gesture, and form. Diem decided to use crayons for their fragility and reminders of childhood. Here she has carved the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. I don't think I'll ever look at a box of crayons the same again! :)

Inspirational Artists :: Twist and Weave

Combining his carpentry skills and love of nature, internationally acclaimed artist Patrick Dougherty uses sticks and saplings to weave monumental environmental sculptures. Both elegant and whimsical, these often site specific installations have been built all over the world. If you live in the Twin Cities I highly recommend going to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum where you can see one of his works...fittingly named the Uff Da Palace, (first pic below).
